From years of experience working with children and families we know that nature is not just a backdrop—it’s a co-teacher. Integrating nature-based storytelling into a classroom isn't just about reading books outside; it’s about a place-based pedagogy that fosters deep ecological identity and literacy.
The Power of Storythread Pedagogy
At Big Scrub Nature Play, we believe that place-based storytelling is the key to unlocking a child’s imagination. By using a storythread pedagogy, we weave local flora and fauna into the curriculum. Whether it’s tracking the seasonal changes on the Sunshine Coast or creating "story sticks" from fallen branches, these nature-based activities provide a "hook" into a child's world.
